  • What time does the celebration begin?
    On-site registration and t-shirt pick up begins in Grant Park at 8:00 a.m.. The registration fee is higher on event day (and may not be available for the 5K). Why not register online now?
  • Is the 5K timed?
    Yes. The 5K is chip-timed. All chips are assigned to bib numbers for the race. Dri-fit shirts and numbers can be picked up on Northwestern's Chicago Campus in the Arkes Family Pavilion on May 30 - June 1 or on event day starting at 8:00 a.m.
  • How long is the Walk route?
    The Walk is about three miles, but you can walk any distance you'd like and return to Grant Park whenever you choose. The Walk is not timed, so enjoy the beautiful lakefront path at your own pace.

  • Can I register in person?
    We encourage everyone to register online, but you can also register in person for the Walk the week before the event at the locations and times listed here. Walk Day registration will be available starting at 8:00 a.m. Please note that space is limited for the 5K Run, and online registration is highly recommended. Registration for the 5K will only be available on event day if space is available.
  • Should I bring my children?
    Definitely! This is a family celebration. Registration is not required for children under 2 years old. Note that strollers are welcome for the Walk, but are not permitted for the 5K Run.
  • Are dogs permitted?
    Dogs are discouraged because of the large number of participants. If you do bring your dog, it must be on a leash at all times. Note that dogs are not permitted for the 5K Run.
  • Where should I park?
    We recommend the Grant Park South Garage (no discount available) and Northwestern Memorial Hospital Huron/St.Clair Parking Garage (discount available). $11 parking vouchers will be available for purchase at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Huron/St.Clair Parking Garage only. Free shuttles run between the hospital and the event site from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. More Parking Information.
  • What time does the event end?
    The celebration is over at about 12:00 p.m., following the cancer survivors' group photo.
  • Who can take part in the Cancer Survivors' Celebration & Walk?
    Everyone whose life has been touched by cancer, regardless of where they were treated.
  • What if it rains?
    The event is held rain or shine...we're counting on shine!
  • What are the t-shirt sizes?
    Options for t-shirt sizes are youth, adult small, adult medium, adult large, adult XL and adult XXL. The t-shirts have a new design each year, created especially for the Cancer Survivors' Celebration & Walk. You will select your t-shirt sizes when registering.
  • Why do only cancer survivors wear purple t-shirts?
    The purple t-shirts make it easy to recognize and honor the cancer survivors.
  • Can you send me my t-shirt?
    No, but there are many locations where t-shirts can be picked up in advance. View T-shirt pick-up location and schedule.
  • Am I expected to raise funds or make a donation?
    No, donations are not required to take part in this community awareness event honoring cancer survivors. Contributions to support research and education at the Lurie Cancer Center are optional, and can be made here. You may also fundraise on our behalf.
  • How can I make a donation to the Lurie Cancer Center?
    Your support helps us attract exceptional new physicians and scientists, and provides funding for important research projects that move us closer to finding a cure. Make an online donation to the Lurie Cancer Center.
  • Can make an offline donation to the Lurie Cancer Center?
    Gifts may be mailed to Northwestern Memorial Foundation, 251 East Huron Street, Suite 3-200, Chicago, Illinois 60611. Please make the check payable to "NM Foundation" and include "In support of Lurie Cancer Center" in the memo line.

  • Are donations tax-deductible?
    Yes, your donation is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. You will receive a receipt for U.S. tax purposes.
